I have known Adria since I was in first grade. We went to the same elementary, middle and high school. She is one of the most loving and sensitive people I know. She is a social worker in a public school and works with many children with special needs. She has told me of many experiences she has had with kids who are frustrated, unable to express their feelings, even harming her physically because of this longing to express themselves. Through it all she is remains patient and kind. One day before my meditation class I called her and she told me how sad she was. How depleted she felt. There was hopelessness in her voice and exhaustion. For one of the few times in our over 30-year friendship, I felt like she needed me. After meditation I taught a poetry class and I wrote this poem to remind her of who she is and the light she expresses through her kindness. Most importantly, how it is essential for her to nourish and care for herself as a lightworker. This is dedicated to all the light workers.
