I was dressed in white on my way to my Friday yoga class with the elders. The Uber driver asked where I was going and I told her I was going to do yoga and meditate with a group of women. She began to share her struggle with food, how she had realized she was trying to ll a hole within her and how she became an overeater. She shared how her exploration
of meditation and mindfulness brought her so much peace. She didn’t have many people in her life who understood her experiences, but she couldn’t stop going within and being mindful of how she was feeling. She called her exploration of mindfulness “her awakening.” This poem is for this Uber driver and all of us who have been through, are going through, or will go through our own awakening. My hope is we can support each other through the journey and remind each other that we are not going insane. We are waking up to who we truly are.
